9 days old

Help me in congratulating Dave and Naomi on the birth of Owen! He was fairly unhappy to have his picture taken (apparently his publicist forgot to notify him) but we still got some great images of the little guy.

First steps.....

in a long journey have just been taken. Completed the first underwater portrait session and rest assured that Howard Schatz is not nervous about the competition. I feel like like being on a long trek, one big section completed, but nowhere near the summit. In fact you couldn't see the summit with a telescope from where I'm standing. But like all journey's, one step at a time and eventually you get somewhere. Thanks to my lovely girlfriend Holly for being my eternal model.

Hounds Abound!

They knock over glasses (always full ones), leave hair everywhere and always steal the bed. Yet we love our hounds, and to celebrate Christmas, D. Michael Photography wants to thank our four legged friends with a sale just for them. From now until December 15th, you can book a session (studio or on location) for only $75! This will include a CD with a selection of the best images.

Please contact the studio to book a session today.

Fall in Seward

The family spent a long weekend relaxing at the Derby Cove cabin in Resurrection Bay just outside of Seward last weekend. Sunday was simply amazing with sun all day and temps well into the high 40's. I took advantage of this rare occurrence and share some of the images we captured. Let me know what you think, I will probably feature a couple of these in an upcoming first Friday show at Kinley's in Anchorage.

Fall Colors

To cap off a spectacular year in South Central Alaska we have been lucky enough to experience a real fall that lasted longer than a week. Cool nights and lots of sunshine have blessed us with a pallet of colors that make every photographer head outside whenever possible. Here are a few images from this weeks wanderings. Family Time

We spent last weekend in the Chugach Range enjoying some much needed down time during the swirling activity of opening the studio and working on our new house. Erebus (red dog)and NYX (black dog) accompanied us deep in the back country and we had some amazing weather on the first two days of our long weekend. Thought I'd take a minute to share our weekend with everyone.

Babies in the Studio

Luke and Lauren stopped by with their boys Braxton and Dex last night for quick studio session. First official shoot in the new studio and couldn't have asked for better patrons. Braxton is 2.5 years old and Dex is 1 month. I'm sure we'll be seeing more of them on the blog in the near future.

Opening Salvo

Things are going fast as the wedding season is in full season now. Our summer has been consumed with the purchase of a new house and the subsequent remodeling of the new studio and office. The studio is nearing completion after countless hours of designing, painting, framing, staining and cleaning up. Look for future posts as we will have an official grand opening in the fall.

I wanted to post a few quick pictures of a wedding I shot second camera for with a good friend and excellent shooter Daryl. I'll be posting a sneak preview later in the week of he wedding we shot this past weekend with Seamus and Mary at the Alaska Native Heritage Center in Anchorage. We got some excellent and the party was still going after we were sent packing. Congratulations!
